Michael Conlan has admitted that fighting for a world title in his home city of Belfast is the "pinnacle" of his career.

The 31-year-old will challenge WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood at the SSE Arena on Saturday night.

Conlan, who is unbeaten in 16 professional fights, is confident that he can become a world champion in front of his home fans.

"This is the pinnacle of my career," he said. "I've been dreaming of this moment for as long as I can remember.

"To be fighting for a world title in Belfast is something special. I know the whole city will be behind me and I'm determined to make them proud."

Wood is a dangerous opponent, but Conlan is confident that he has the skills and experience to win.

"Wood is a tough fighter, but I'm ready for him," he said. "I've been training hard for this fight and I'm in the best shape of my life.

"I'm going to go out there and put on a show for the fans. I'm going to win and become a world champion."

The fight is expected to be a thrilling contest and it could be one of the biggest nights in Irish boxing history.

Conlan is hoping to inspire a new generation of Irish boxers and he is determined to make his country proud.

"I want to be a role model for young people in Ireland," he said. "I want to show them that anything is possible if you work hard and believe in yourself.

"I'm going to win this fight and I'm going to show the world that I'm the best featherweight in the world."
